A force click is sort of like a right-click without having to press a key or think about where you're pressing.
Includes the taptic engine tech from Apple Watch: "a linear actuator inside Apple Watch that produces haptic feedback. In less technical terms, it taps you on the wrist."
Presumably most or all of these features will come to MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros in a variety of sizes.
All of this iterative engineering that Apple does is in many ways more impressive in Macbooks than in iPhones, because there are so many tiny mechanical pieces--the keys, the trackpad, etc. You can see and feel all of the progress at play.
For the time being, though, this is the most fully-evolved Mac portable. Fanless design, tiny logic board.
Schiller is not wearing a Watch right now as far as I can tell, did he not get the memo or something?
I like the idea of this computer just being called the MacBook. Not a special sort of Mac--just a Mac. Maybe the definitive Mac of the moment.
Still a bit strange for Schiller to be showing off logic boards during what has become such a consumer-oriented event
The batteries are "terraced" to take up as much space as possible. 35% more battery. 9 hours of wireless web browsing.
67% smaller. Schiller: "So what do we do with the rest of that space? We fill it with batteries." And unicorns, I'm pretty sure.
(9 hours being fine, but not a remarkable claim--although Apple's claims sometimes come closer to reality than those of most PC manufacturers.)
The future ratio of all devices, until we improve on our core lithium ion battery tech, is going to be 1% processor and stuff, 99% batteries.
The MacBook has USB-C, the new slim, reversible, data-and-power, do-anything port. Probably the beginning of the end of Lightning.
One connector to rule them all. Someone had to say it.
Available in silver, space gray, and gold, just like an iPhone.
Interesting that Apple led with the gold version.
Note that the new Macbook doesn't have a Magsafe power connector. It charges through USB.
Oh, here's the Ive video.
There's been a theory that the MagSafe might be at the other end of the cord connected to the power brick.
Harry, that's not the same, man!
Half expected Ive to say "aurum" instead of gold.
Would Ive narrate these videos if he was from Jersey?
When Ive retires from Apple he's going to make a great wildlife narrator.
@MarkWilson: the new David Attenborough!
Now I just want the unannounced Macbook Pro version of this new Macbook. The 13-inch will see some internal updates and a new trackpad. But there are no updates for the 15-inch MBP.
The new 12-inch Macbook ships April 10.
Note that the Air and the Pro will still sell alongside this new Macbook.
